Continuing the Tradition

1889 Through Today!

Chocolates and fine candies have been an integral part of Knoxville, Tennessee since 1889. The South's Finest Chocolate Factory is proud to be a part of this fine tradition.

Beginning in 1889, Littlefield and Steere Company began production of fine chocolates and candies. Confections from Knoxville, Tennessee were shipped throughout the South, and as far away as Texas. In the early 1900's a fire swept through a portion of downtown Knoxville and destroyed the facility. After a brief stay at a temporary location, Littlefield and Steere Company built a 7 story factory in 1919.

From this location chocolates, hard candies, stick candies, marshmallows, and bonbons were produced and shipped to eager customers. Over 20,000 pounds of candy could be made daily. In 1932, the Candy Factory was closed. The building was used as a warehouse until the 1982 World's Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee. Again, this elegant building became a center of commerce and activity. The Candy Factory was rennovated and housed 7 restaurants and various shops and galleries during the 6 months of the Knoxville World's Fair.

In 1983, the South's Finest Chocolate Factory began manufacturing gourmet chocolates in Knoxville. For a decade the business grew and began shipping chocolates throughout the United States. In 1993, the South's Finest Chocolate Factory moved into the Candy Factory Building. Once again, a thriving chocolate business is located in one of Knoxville's most prominent landmarks.

It's not just the chocolate! One of the South's Finest Chocolate Factory's two owners is a descendent of a principal officer of theLittlefield and Steere Company. A family business has come full circle!

Today, the South's Finest Chocolate Factory is Knoxville's only full-line chocolatier. They have been producing over 100 fine chocolates and candies for more than a decade. With two locations in Knoxville, happy customers are treated to a vast array of tasty, mouth-watering chocolates.
